Insect rugs make life easier for all horses and ponies during the summer months when flies, horseflies, and mosquitoes are bothersome in the pasture. Insect rugs are typically made from lightweight mesh material and are available from several manufacturers, both with and without a neck cover. Often, a hood can be attached to the neck part, providing fairly comprehensive protection for the horse. Some insect rugs also feature UV protection.
